Our founder Dr. Anthony Osei Boateng BSc, MSc, PhD, PGCHE, FHEA is a Senior Biomedical Research Consultant based in London and Industrial Scientist / Senior Lecturer at University of Greenwich. Previously, Anthony was a Visiting Lecturer in Life/Biomedical Sciences at the University of Westminster. Anthony has a PhD in Biomedical Science from Westminster University and MSc in Pharmaceutical Science from London Metropolitan University. He has over 10 years’ experience in medical research, having worked in Ghana as a Clinical Pathology Researcher at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research under the Supervision of Dr Regina Appiah-Opong on malaria research projects in collaboration with New York University, Harvard University and Yale University.
Anthony holds a PhD in Biomedical Science from University of Westminster where he investigated hepatoprotective properties of phytochemicals: gentiopicroside, swerosides, swertiamarin and silymarin against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), supervised by Prof. Annie Bligh and Dr. Vinood Patel. His PhD research confirmed the potential of gentiopicroside in promoting liver cell viability and mitochondrial function however more research is required to gain more understanding of this phenomenon. In line with this, Anthony performed potentiation studies at Westminster University investigating the synergistic effects of gentiopicroside with other phytochemicals.
World First: Anthony was the first person to use Agilent Seahorse XF analysers to investigate phytochemicals: gentiopicroside, sweroside, and swertiamarin for their mitochondrial effects on hepatocytes.
In November 2019, Anthony helped to raise £5 million to facilitate the construction of Ghana's first sustainable pharmaceutical factory powered by 500 acres of solar energy for producing affordable medicines in Ghana for supply to other West African countries.
In March 2019, Anthony was head-hunted for London’s Entrepreneur First (EF) LD12 cohort and paid a stipend to come up with new ideas to disrupt the UK’s Biotech industry. It was during EF that Anthony began working on pharmacogenomic modules for genetic-specific prescriptions. This program gave Anthony the opportunity to ideate with leading authorities in UK’s 100K genomics project, National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and also participated in the pharmacogenomics conference at John Hopkins University in May 2019. It was after the EF experience that Anthony started An & An Global Limited.
During his MSc in Pharmaceutical Science at London Metropolitan University, under the supervision of Dr. Kevin Devine, Anthony developed novel Plasmodium falciparum GDH inhibitors as potential antimalarials. He completed his MSc as the overall best student in MSc Pharmaceutical Science for the year 2013.
In 2012, Anthony received a citation from Queen Elizabeth II for an article he wrote for her Diamond Jubilee. You can read more about this via the link below.

Anthony’s interest in plant medicine research began when he worked with his father Dr. Francis Osei Boateng who is a Pharmacist, Pharmacognosist and expert in Phytotherapy whereby he tapped into his rich experience in drug design and formulation. He then studied his BSc in Herbal Medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, followed by MSc. Pharmaceutical Science at London Metropolitan University and finally PhD in Biomedical Science at University of Westminster, London.
Anthony also received advanced training in research and development of medicinal plants jointly from Tianjin University for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) and University of Nairobi. Anthony also worked with the WHO Collaboration Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine (CSRPM) on WHO funded projects. During his PhD, Anthony used high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) methods to analyse and quantify phytochemicals in Gentiana lutea, Gentiana macrophylla, Gentiana scabra and Gentiana rigescens.
Anthony was a member of Microsoft’s Dreamspark and Bizpark program where he developed skills in software and app design using tools and training provided by the Microsoft Dreamspark program. During that period, Anthony also trained in developing apps for android devices and apk packaging.
During his MSc. Pharmaceutical Science degree, our Founder designed Anthony's Roller Compactor machine for making immediate release tablet medication modified with thermostatic fins.
Anthony is a Fellow of UK's Higher Education Academy and a keen advocate for pedagogy, teaching and knowledge impartation. He has undertaken and received distinction in PRESTige Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE). He has also trained in experimental pedagogy: innovating teaching and learning in higher education and supporting teaching and learning in higher education. Anthony has supervised both undergraduate and postgraduate students and is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster. Anthony aims to use his knowledge curriculum design, teaching and training to guide An & An Global in training tomorrow’s biomedical research scientists today.
In response to the COVID-19, pandemic, our Founder is launching the 1 Million Biographies Charity Project. Many of the older generation have sadly passed away during this pandemic without having their biographies and life experiences written as a legacy for this younger generation. Our project aims to freely record and publish the biographies of ordinary people in UK and worldwide aged 70 years and above to enable the younger generations to learn from their life experiences.
Extracurricularly, our founder has interest in music and has been playing the piano since the age of five (5). During his childhood days in Ghana at age 7, Anthony built his first TV station from scrap material which was able to transmit on analogue UHF and VHF frequencies. For over eight years Anthony has been a UN Online Volunteer and has also raised funds for Cancer Research and hospices in UK. He also volunteers his time as part of the Board of Governors of a School in Essex.
